Jeff Guerin
Co-founder, Chief Information Officer
Jeff’s role in the Ortech client journey is to optimize our client`s data collection requirements and ensure they are collecting what they need to achieve their goals, benchmarking their work, and improving quality of care. He personally oversees this first step because the data you get out is only as good as that which you input.
Over the past 15 years, Jeff has established himself as a leading expert in orthopaedic clinical outcome data collection and analytics. Before establishing Ortech, he was research director for London Health Sciences Centre, an internationally renowned orthopaedic institution. Prior to his involvement in joint replacements he held positions within Metropolitan Life and Crown Life Insurance companies in an actuarial role. Jeff holds an Honors Bachelor of Mathematics (Actuarial Science) degree from the University of Waterloo in Waterloo, Ontario.
Sean Volkaert
Co-founder, Chief Technology Officer
Sean is a key player in the definition, development and creation of Ortech applications. Part of his role is to personally manage the interfacing assignments with each of our clients.
As Chief Technology Officer (CTO), Sean has helped scale Ortech products from a single site to more than 100 registries across North America. He also helped Ortech establish a leadership role in interfacing. Thanks to his efforts Ortech has bi-directional interfaces with all of the leading EMR systems.
With a degree in Computer Science from Fanshawe College, Sean worked for 10 years as an IT Manager in the Department of Orthopaedics at LHSC. During his time there, his responsibilities included database development for internationally renowned researchers in the field of orthopaedics.
Combining his experience in healthcare research with his technical aptitudes in IT has equipped Sean to help Ortech fill a gap in the industry and provide meaningful applications that are healthcare solutions rather than IT solutions. Growing Ortech and taking a CTO role has resulted in a continuous evolution of his skills in a wide variety of hardware and software technologies.
Michael Barr
Vice President, Sales and Marketing
It is more than likely Michael will be your first point of contact with Ortech. He works closely with prospective clients, bringing key hospital personnel into the discussion and getting strategic around the use of data and the outcomes our clients hope to see. Michael is able to align stakeholders and help achieve a shared appreciation for how outcomes are used in reimbursement discussions and in improving healthcare delivery. This work lays a critical foundation to the success in our clients’ journey to an evidence-based practice.
Michael Barr is a senior healthcare executive with 15 years of progressive experience in general management, business to business sales and product marketing. Prior to joining Ortech, he helped lead a biotechnology company by successfully completing an initial public offering and negotiating several international research and development agreements with multinational pharmaceutical companies.
Michael holds an Honors Business Administration degree from the Ivey Business School at Western University and was valedictorian of his graduating class. He also previously served as President of the National Board of Directors for the Sunshine Foundation of Canada.
Paul Samoluk
Sr. Project Manager
Paul supports and manages all projects within Ortech with a primary focus on supporting and managing the client support team and our clients. Paul brings a significant amount of experience in assisting clients and building more efficient and repeatable processes.
Prior to joining Ortech, Paul worked as an operations manager for a telecommunications company, leading a software engineering team to successfully develop and deploy company wide workforce management software. More recently, Paul worked for over 12 years in defense industry, developing software applications to power the logistics and supportability of in-field equipment.
Paul holds a Computer Science degree from University of Guelph with a minor in Genetics and is also a certified Six Sigma Green Belt.

Kory Charron
Special Projects/Client Application Specialist
Kory advises our clients on data set selection. In this capacity he is able to call upon his vast experience in orthopaedic research. Kory also dedicates time monitoring data trends to proactively identify opportunities for clients to improve patient compliance and increase quality of data inside of their Ortech registry.
Prior to joining Ortech, Kory worked as a research director for several prominent orthopaedic surgeons at LHSC. During that time, Kory became one of a handful of experts in several fields of orthopaedic research, including: the hip analysis suite software package for hip polyethylene wear measurements, in-depth RSA expert (radiostereometric analysis), knee simulation testing, statistical analysis and SQL software language.
He has published several journal articles, authored several AAOS award papers and presented at orthopaedic meetings. Prior to his career in orthopaedic research, Kory worked in the manufacturing realm as a production efficiency expert. Combining his background in efficiency and knowledge of orthopaedic research has made Kory a valuable asset to Ortech as a means to ensuring optimal process efficiency in terms of client satisfaction.
Danica Parsons
Lead, Application Support
Danica makes sure our clients’ implementation plan is on track and that they are gaining maximum value from our application.
She is a customer service professional with over 23 years experience in supporting clients with items such as on boarding, technical support, day to day communications on project statuses, staff training, and future planning etc.
Danica is an honors graduate from both Fanshawe College and Westervelt College in computer software related programs
Debbie Pollard
Client Application Specialist
Debbie is responsible for the day-to-day support and maintenance of client accounts, ensuring that customers receive high quality service. In addition to this role, she also assists in supporting the development team with quality assurance, making certain that software is error-free and that our clients receive a superlative product.
Previous to her work at Ortech, Debbie was employed at companies in the industrial supply, digital marketing, and online publishing fields. Throughout her 16 years of experience in technical roles, she has developed skills in customer service, quality assurance, web design, and corporate training.
Debbie is a graduate of the Internet Technologist program at Fanshawe College and has also studied many courses in Graphic Design and Adult Education.
Tracy Volkaert
Accounts/Office Administration
Tracy coordinates the billing, estimates and contract agreements at Ortech. She joined Ortech in 2012 and manages the accounting and office management and provides sales administration support. Her eight years’ experience in event management, social media marketing and public relations lends itself well to her role here at Ortech that requires a high level of customer service and consistent communication.
Tracy is an honor graduate of Fanshawe College in Hotel Management.
Technical Support and EMR Interfacing
Brian Hambleton
Integration Specialist/Sr. Developer
With over a two decades of software development (greater than 10 with Ortech) design and leadership experience, Brian has been integral in designing and implementing Ortech’s enterprise-level applications such as reporting (charting, custom queries, dashboard, static reports), form-based data entry, interfacing (HL7, file-based acquisition, custom ETLs, web services), automatic emailing, administrative, and mobile systems.
Brian manages custom client requests and enhancements, resource and project management, and oversees the daily operations of the development team. He works closely with members of the team to plan projects and assists in delivering on time. Brian also supports our client IT departments in interfacing to our systems via HL7, SFTP or through other APIs and services.
Richard Corner
Senior Solutions Architect
Richard has 24 years’ professional experience in software design – greater than 10 years with Ortech – development and management. He has created everything from mobile, browser and desktop applications to large-scale, multi-tier business-critical applications that demand extreme resilience and scalability. With a thorough technical knowledge of software, platforms and databases, and a career history spanning both public and private sectors, Richard brings a wealth of valuable expertise to the design and construction of our technical systems.
Gary Cordick
Automation Architect/Sr. Developer
Gary has been with Ortech for more than 10 years and is a valuable member to the Ortech Family. He is responsible for the developer operations and policies, application deployment and source code organization. Gary is also involved in product development, maintenance, bug fixes and upgrades to features.
Gary was previously a developer in the pharmacology economics industry. He has a degree in Business Information Systems, and an advanced diploma with co-op in Computer Systems Technology.
Brad Wilson
Sr. Developer/Full Stack
Brad designs, develops, and tests web forms for use by medical staff, administrators and patients. He is also the lead on the data exporting capabilities including the query and report building tools. His ultimate goal is to provide an efficient experience for users in a secure environment.
With two years’ experience developing healthcare focused applications, Brad has a strong knowledge of industry best-practices regarding security, reliability, and usability. He holds an Honors Bachelors of Engineering Sciences (Software Engineering) degree from The University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario.
