Ortech Systems is donating its data registry product for Operation Walk USA 2014 for the third consecutive year. In 2014, 85 orthopaedic surgeons are volunteering at hospitals across the United States to provide free hip or knee replacements to patients as part of Operation Walk USA. Ortech is providing its web based system to participating hospitals for free – enabling them to efficiently and accurately capture data on surgeries and procedures provided to patients in need.
“It’s important for us to capture data on Operation Walk USA surgeries as we would any surgery, and to compare our patient outcomes to the national standard,” said Adolph V. Lombardi, Jr., MD, President, Operation Walk USA. “When we see patients, it’s clear the result is transformative in their lives. Capturing data is further proof of this success.”
Ortech will transfer Operation Walk USA 2014 Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) compliant data to the American Joint Replacement Registry, a national center for data collection and research on total hip and knee replacements.
The annual Operation Walk USA program is held during the entire first week of December, and in 2014, an estimated 120 patients will receive free joint replacements. Operation Walk USA provides all aspects of treatment ─ surgery, hospitalization, and pre-and post-operative care ─ at no cost to participating patients who may not qualify for government health coverage, have insurance or afford surgery on their own.
“Orthopaedic surgeons are volunteering their time and resources to those who need surgery, and we want to support these efforts as much as possible,” said Jeff Guerin, Ortech Systems Co-Founder. “By providing data capture during surgery, and in follow up with OpWalk patients, we provide OpWalk and volunteer surgeons with data that ensures the best outcomes possible.” This is the fifth year for Operation Walk USA, which has provided free total joint replacement to 492 patients to date.
